* The relevant FRU is some combination of 01AX569 and SN20L72890, but it appears only third party sellers sell the backlit keyboard right now (the only T470 accessories Lenovo is currently selling on their webpage are a couple of batteries) * Searching this forum, I see that that some - but not all - T450s do not have the backlight work when replacing the keyboard: * I was able to upgrade my keyboard to a backlit keyboard in my T430 without problem * There is nothing in the built in system diagnostics nor BIOS for my T470 saying anything about the motherboard supporting or not supporting a backlit keyboard.
* The page shows that every i7-7600U model has a backlit keyboard (but, then again, my model, the 20HDCTO1WW is not on the list), with only i5-7200U and i5-6200U not having backlight support. * There is nothing in Lenovo’s T470 service manual at (topic)_T0000607918 about only some T470 motherboards supporting a backlit keyboard. * The dealers selling T470 backlit keyboards warn that it may not be possible to get the backlight to work if the motherboard does not support it (for example, where they claim “Please check whether your laptop can support backlit keyboard or not before placing the order, if can not, the backlit function of our keyboard will not work!” or with a similar “ If your original/old keyboard does not have the backlit, this keyboard backlit will not work.” warning) Here is the information I have gotten from my research: Is is possible to upgrade this model to have a backlit keyboard? I got the model with the non-backlit keyboard. It’s a really great laptop I like how clear and bright the display is as well as how fast it runs. The 2TB SSD and 32GB RAM I got from Crucial work without problem (yes, I ran a memory tester) - although, yes, it’s a moderate pain to take off the back panel (even if you have a special plastic tool for doing so). Excellent computer! I got the Core i7-7600U model with 4gb of memory and a 500gb non-SSD hard disk (T470 20HDCTO1WW, ordered directly from Lenovo).
